Under 19 World Cup - Dravid's request for pay parity accepted by BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India accepted the Under 19 and India A coach, Rahul Dravid's proposal for equal pay in relation to India Under 19 side clinching the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, earlier in the month.

As per a report in Indian Express, BCCI has revised the original pay package. According to the redrafted plan, each member of the backroom staff, including Dravid will be rewarded with INR 25 lakh each. So Dravid's initial reward of INR 50 lakhs has been halved.

There have been a few additions made to the original list. W V Raman, who was the coach of the Under-19 set-up that travelled to England last year, logistics managers Manuj Sharma and Sumeet Malahapurkar and Amogh Pandit, will be rewarded as well. The BCCI has also extended the pay package to a trainer (Rajesh Savant) of the set-up who passed away last year.

Earlier this month, Dravid had conveyed his reservations about accepting INR 50 lakhs when other members of the backroom staff were being rewarded with INR 20 lakh each. On the other hand, players were expected to be paid in the range of INR 30 lakh each.

Dravid had reiterated the point of equal prize money when he met BCCI CEO Rahul Johri on February 14. He had also expressed the the idea of paying those who had worked with the set-up previously but were not part of the just-concluded Under 19 World Cup.

"It was great team work, guys behind the scenes, the selectors, NCA, the BCCI setting up games and series. Winning a tournament like this is a good reflection of the team work," Dravid had noted in the media after the triumphant Under-19 squad had landed in India.
